General
Information
The forecasts on this web-site take into account data and other information available
up to 1 May 2008 but not beyond. Of particular importance are the historical data to
the June quarter 2007 published by the ABS as follows:
- "Engineering Construction Activity", ABS Cat No. 8762.0, published 17 April 2008; and
- "Building Activity", ABS Cat No. 8752.0, published 18 April 2008.
Forecast horizons are as follows. The short-term forecasts are on a quarterly basis
and extend from the March quarter 2008 until the December quarter 2009. The long-term
forecasts are on a financial year basis and extend from 2007-08 until 2014-15.
The construction forecasts are classified by type of construction and region as follows.
- Residential building is separated into four building functions. Three of the building functions are based on ABS Building Activity definitions. These building functions are further divided into 14 regions, being the six state capital cities, the remainder of the six states, and the two territories. The fourth category is derived from ABS National Accounts as well as Building Activity. It represents mainly small alterations and additions and includes mobile residences. This building function is divided into the eight states and territories.
- Non-residential building is separated into nine building functions, based on ABS definitions. It is further divided into 14 regions, being the six state capital cities, the remainder of the six states, and the two territories.
- Engineering construction is separated into seven construction types, based on ABS definitions. It is further divided into the eight states and territories.
For detailed definitions, see the ABS publications referred to above.
